Rewire Your Brain for Change

Winston Churchill said, "To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." I believe this is true.

Coaches help people change. Yet change is difficult. Our brains are wired to do what we've always done. We need to rewire them. That's the subject of this month's article.

I loved the physiological psychology class I took last year, probably because it linked my undergrad in Biology with my graduate work in Psychology. I always think it's helpful to understand what is going on in our bodies and how it relates to our thoughts and feelings. I just saw that ICF was advertising a post graduate certificate in the neuroscience of leadership. Fascinating.

I was also reminded of what I learned about 2 Timothy 3:16. Which describes the process of getting out of the rut! It says that scripture is profitable for teaching (showing us truth), reproof (showing us that we are off the track- or in a bad rut), correction (showing us how to get on the right track- or out of the rut) and training (showing us how to stay on the correct path- or out of a bad rut). I often use these ideas to pray through other scripture.

We do need to re-wire our brains for change and you are correct that it is God and His word that most successfully accomplish that.
